Blueschist mylonitic zones accommodating syn-subduction exhumation of deeply buried continental crust: the example of the Rocca Canavese Thrust Sheets Unit (Sesia–Lanzo Zone, Italian Western Alps)

چکیده

Abstract The Rocca Canavese Thrust Sheets Unit (RCTU) is a subduction-related mélange that represents the eastern-most complex of Sesia–Lanzo Zone (SLZ), bounded by Periadriatic (Canavese) Lineament separates Alpine subduction from Southalpine domain. RCTU limited to south Lanzo Massif (LM) and east Eclogitic Micaschists Complex (EMC). Particularly tectonic contact area RCTU, adjacent neighbouring SLZ LM characterised 100–200-m-thick mylonitic ultra-mylonitic zone (MZ) was active under blueschist-to greenschist-facies conditions. Despite dominant structure, some rocks (garnet-bearing gneiss, garnet-free gneiss orthogneiss) still preserve pre-mylonitic parageneses in meter-sized domains. scarcity superposed structures small size relicts impose detailed microstructural analysis supported chemical investigation reconstruct tectono-metamorphic history MZ. Therefore, we integrated classical meso- approach with novel quantitative technique based on Quantitative X-Ray Map Analyzer (Q-XRMA), used classify rock-forming minerals starting an array X-ray elemental maps, both at whole thin section micro-domain scale, as well calibrate maps for pixel-based end-member component relevant more robust conventional geothermobarometer application calculating reliable PT pseudosections. High-temperature deformation during continental-margin subduction & exhumation: The ultrahigh-pressure Western Gneiss Region of Norway

A new dataset for the high-pressure to ultrahigh-pressure Western Gneiss Region allows the definition of distinct structural and petrological domains.Much of the study area is an E-dippinghomoclinewith E-plunging lineations that exposes progressively deeper, more strongly deformed, more eclogite-rich structural levels westward. Although eclogites crop out across the WGR, Scandian deformation is...

Elemental composition of concentrated brines in subduction zones and the deep continental crust

It has been well established that fluids played an important part in determining chemical characteristics in many crustal terranes. Studies of fluid inclusions in eclogites have established that brines coexisted with the primary mineral assemblages during their metamorphic crystallization. These brines are currently multiply saturated in halide salts, carbonates, oxides, and sulfides. As a firs...

Active continental subduction and crustal exhumation: the Taiwan orogeny

It is generally accepted that continental subduction and crustal exhumation play an important role in the evolution of many orogenic belts. A variety of geological evidence suggests that continental crust is occasionally subducted to depths of tens to perhaps 150 km (e.g. Chopin, 1984; Dewey et al., 1993; Matte et al., 1997). Recently, a series of simulations (Chemenda, 1993; Chemenda et al., 1...

determination of maximal singularity free zones in the workspace of parallel manipulator

due to the limiting workspace of parallel manipulator and regarding to finding the trajectory planning of singularity free at workspace is difficult, so finding a best solution that can develop a technique to determine the singularity-free zones in the workspace of parallel manipulators is highly important. in this thesis a simple and new technique are presented to determine the maximal singula...

Alpine and Pacific styles of Phanerozoic mountain building: subduction-zone petrogenesis of continental crust

The geological complexities of contractional orogenic belts have been studied for two centuries, yet our understanding of them is still rapidly changing. Most mountain belts form at or near the active edges of continents and/or fringing island arcs. Virtually all result from consumption of lithospheric plates, involving the underflow of oceanic crust, and the consequent transport and descent of...
